The question of why we could possibly want to see another 3D printer coming onto the market today is a common one. In an industry that started very quietly as early as the ‘80s and then exploded into the mainstream over the just the past few years, it would seem we are inundated with machines. If you are a 3D printing enthusiast, however, you probably want to check out everything new. With the intricacies and care that go into making things, sometimes the most subtle new feature can mean opening a new world for innovation and making it real.

But the key to all these products, overall, is that they are tools. And the need for such items is vast, especially for the artist or engineer. Just think of how many tools inhabit your neighborhood hardware store. While many of those even are used in the 3D printing and finishing process, it’s important to consider how many different ‘tools’ are needed to assist in the process of innovation, which it would seem has infinite forms–and options. So while many new 3D printers may just be copycats, or riding the coattails of others, it’s important to take a look at each new company in earnest to see what they bring forth.Untitled

One new startup getting a lot of attention isGooo3D. Based in Seoul, South Korea and founded by Paul Kim, this company does have boasting rights as having designed the world’s first UV DLP 3D printer that functions without the need for a PC or network due to its embedded support system function. The printer allows simple plug-and-play from a standard USB drive, reading files and printing directly.

Gooo3D has also just launched an Indiegogo campaign with aspirations of reaching a flexible goal of $100K by mid-December.

“We started our company because we wanted to make 3D printing fun and affordable,” says Paul Kim. “We are makers and we are focused on making high quality DLP printers for people like us.”

The G Printer was designed expressly for the home, office, or workshop setting. Available in white, silver, and black, the design is classic and appealing. The G Printer is compact, while allowing you to print objects that are 5.1″ x 3.1″ x 5.5” at 100 microns.rmwa94b5hvt6hmgl8dwu

“Because a normal DLP engine shoots its beam in a wide spectrum the range causes large variability in light intensity throughout the beam. The light towards the center shines the brightest and most intensely while the light at the edges are comparatively very weak,” states the Gooo3D team on their Indiegogo page. “Such uneven light produces unevenness in the resulting print out, causing variance with the modeling data you inputted.”

The difference with the compact, versatile G Printer is that it’s focused, providing a more uniform beam, offering 3D printing precision for a smooth surface and straight lines. It also offers:gooo3d

  • Pre-installed automatic support software, thanks to Gooo3D’s partnership with Materialise
  • Fine precision due to a 100% UV projector, making it capable of printing extremely fine details at a 100 micron degree of precision
  • Speed of 2.36 inches, 60 mm/hour
  • Lack of noise
  • Less heat, also due to the UV engine which does not overheat, or require a fan
  • Long-lasting performance, for at least 10,000 hours before bulb needs replacing

The G Printer is recommended for jewelers, designers in many sectors, engineers, toy makers, and many hobbyists.

Early birds offering support can look forward to receiving the G Printer for $4,500 USD, accompanied by 500g of their special resin. After that the package ascends in price up to $5,000 with the printer, special resin, and castable resin also. At $5,599, a sample pack is offered with the G printer, special resin, castable resin, and a sticker.

Rewards are expected to be delivered in April, with the exception of the sample pack, which will be delivered in March. The final prototype for the G Printer has been manufactured, and with the Indiegogo funds, they will work to put this special 3D printer in the homes and offices of many.
